The 2025 Veterinary Association of Zambia Annual Scientific Conference was held in Livingstone, Zambia from 23rd to 25th April, 2025 under the theme “Animal Health takes a team”.
The Zambian NeuroSolve Principal Investigator, Evans K. Mwape, gave a presentation titled “The challenges and opportunities in the control of the pork tapeworm in Zambia” (Picture 1).
The presentation triggered a fruitful discussion on how to counter some of the challenges highlighted in the presentation. A notable submission was from a participant who highlighted how a non-governmental organization in the Western province of Zambia was training women groups on the best ways of keeping pigs in resource poor settings. The discussion emphasized the importance of a One Health approach at all levels for the control of not only the pork tapeworm, but also other neglected tropical parasitic diseases.
