Ghent University (UGent) is a public university in Belgium with a high-standing reputation of collaborating on international collaborative projects. The university has participated in 263 research projects in the 7th Framework Programme, of which it coordinated 42 collaborative projects. Till now, Ghent University, under Horizon 2020 is involved in around 270 projects and coordinates 26 of the collaborative projects. From UGent, Prof. Sarah Gabriël graduated as a veterinarian from Ghent University in 1999. She subsequently worked at the Onderstepoort Veterinary Institute in Pretoria, South Africa, then at the University of Zambia. From 2008-2016 she conducted research on parasitic zoonoses at the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp. Since October 2016, she works for the Department of Veterinary Public Health and Food Safety at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, as head of the laboratory of foodborne parasitic zoonoses. She has a longstanding track-record in implementation research, is part of the WHO working group on Neurocysticercosis and is the Chair of CYSTINET, the European network on taeniosis/cysticercosis, and a member of The Cysticercosis Working Group for East and Southern Africa.
