STATISTICS AND DATA MANAGEMENT APPLIED TO CLINICAL RESEARCH SHORT COURSE

A 5-day training workshop on Statistics and Data Management applied to Clinical Research has been conducted from the 29th of July to the 2nd of August 2024 for NeuroSolve’s PhDs and Masters students, both from Zambia and Tanzania. This was the third capacity building activity implemented as per the NeuroSolve project plan.

The training has been conducted physically in Dodoma, the capital of Tanzania, and delivered also online. Between the more than 20 participants, 8 PhD and Master candidates (5 males and 3 females) attended the course in presence, while 3 (2 males and 1 female) attended the course online.
Before to deliver the course, the students provided their expectations from the training, so that the statistical expert and training facilitator, Prof. Michael Mahande, was able to prioritize the most relevant topics and practices for the training according to students’ previous knowledge and needs.

Upon completing the workshop, attendees had the confidence, knowledge, and resources to:

  1. Understand basic theory underlying many popular statistical tests;
  2. Understand recent advances in statistical issues: recent models applied in biomedical data, clinical and public health research;
  3. Determine the appropriate statistical test to use given a dataset and a research question;
  4. Perform basic statistical tests, interpret and understand output from statistical tests.
