(8th to 12th July, 2024, School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Zambia)
The NeuroSolve Project conducted training on good clinical practice (GCP) and good clinical laboratory practice (GCLP) in Lusaka at the School of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Zambia. The training was conducted by trainers from Tanzania namely Dr. Bernard Ngowi from the University of Dar Es Salaam and NeuroSolve – Tanzania PI and from the Tanzania National Institute for Medical Reaserch, NIMR, namely Prof. Sayoki G. Mfinanga, Dr. Charles Makasi and Mr Abisai Kisinda.
Although the training targeted NeuroSolve Project’s researchers and post graduate students, it was opened up to members of staff not only in the school of Veterinary Medicine where the NeuroSolve project is housed but also the School of Health Sciences. Attendance was from all four departments of the School including academic members of staff as well as technical staff. In attendance also was the Acting Dean of the School of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Victor Zulu, who thanked the project for organising the training, as it was very important considering also that the University was working towards internationally accrediting some of its laboratories.
The trainers provided insights into the GCP requirements highlighting the regulations that govern it, especially the process of informed consent. For laboratories to enhance production of credible results, the principles and regulations of GCLP were highlighted. The trainers also provided review questions to enhance understanding of the regulations. All presented materials have since been shared with the trainees and certificates of attendance will be issued to them in due course.
